Can New Management Turn Eni and Finmeccanica Around?

May 28, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
Filed under: Investing New government measures by recently appointed Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi are bringing renewed excitement to the country. Renzi, a relatively new face within Italian politics, decided to execute a stimulus plan that will benefit lower-income workers. Now, every Italian worker with an annual salary ranging from about $11,000 to $35,000 (8,000 euros to 26,000 euros) will receive a $109 monthly bonus. The cost? Range Resources Corp: Too Many Hedges?

May 28, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
Filed under: Investing With natural gas inventories close to decade lows, investors would probably prefer an exploration and production firm with limited hedges to participate in the potential price appreciation of the commodity. It is a double-edged sword to risk production and long-term capital investments without knowing the future price, but in the current market it’s undoubtedly disappointing to invest in a firm with extensive hedges at lower prices. Range Resources Corp is one of the largest and fastest-growing producers in the Marcellus Shale. The company has some of the most prolific wells helping [...]

Microsoft Is Not Ready to Pull the Plug on Nokia's Android Smartphones

May 28, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
Filed under: Investing Earlier this year, Nokia Corporation surprised many people when it announced that it would launch its own line of Android smartphone–the Nokia X series of handsets. This seemed a tad confusing given that Microsoft , which now fully owns Nokia’s devices business, has been trying hard to push its flagship Windows Phone platform. In an even more surprising turn of events, Microsoft may itself now push out a Nokia X successor, if certain unconfirmed rumors turn out to be true. According to the report, Microsoft will address the lack of a [...]

Apple at $700 Isn't Crazy

May 28, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
Filed under: Investing More analysts are trying to keep pace with reality. Barclays boosted it price target on Apple from $590 to $655, retaining its neutral rating on the stock. Bernstein Research pushed its goal from $615 to $700, also sticking to its bullish outperform rating on the consumer electronics giant. Both analysts have their reasons for propping up their price targets. Bernstein feels that the inevitability of the larger iPhone, upgrade-friendly moves at wireless carriers, and even Apple’s upcoming stock split make it more valuable. Barclays feels new products and Apple’s bottom-line resilience [...]

Is the Market Wrong About Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation?

But the stock has fallen 5% to date in 2014, even as shares of natural gas-focused peers Southwestern Energy, EQT, and Range Resources have risen by 15%, 16%, and 8%, respectively, since the beginning of this year. Given Cabot’s exceptional operational capabilities, industry-leading low-cost structure, and significant prospects for production, earnings, and cash flow growth, I think its exclusion from the rally among Marcellus-focused [...]
