Thermal Solar Energy — Some Technologies Really Are Dumb

The Ivanpah Solar Power Facility in the Mojave Desert was the largest thermal solar generating station in the world when it was completed. Unfortunately, it has failed to live up to its expectations and will probably not be repeated in the United States. 40 Ivanpahs, costing about $85 billion and having triple the carbon footprint, is needed to replace the loss of California?s San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station.
