The return of growth in HDD shipment volume emphasizes the value of inexpensive storage in retaining the growing libraries of content. The content needing to be stored long term in lower latency, low cost systems (such as those making up the majority of cloud storage) will ensure demand for some time to come, assuming the timely introduction of new technologies such as Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) or two-dimensional magnetic recording. In addition the continued growth in non-volatile MRAM technology augers a new age of lower power computing technology with new features enabling the Internet of Things and other ways to bring more technology to bear to solve many human problems and to meet human needs.
