At the Waldorf Astoria in New York city, the cost for 24 hours of “standard” guest internet access is $18.95. A faster subscription, one barely able to sustain streaming video, runs $24.95. On the exhibition floor of a Silicon Valley conference on innovation and technology earlier this month, each booth on the show floor included electricity and furniture but no wireless internet. The cost for connectivity: $80 for one device for one day, equal to two months of typical home broadband service.
