In afternoon trading on Friday, Utilities stocks are the worst performing sector, showing a 0.9% loss. Within that group, American Electric Power Company, (NYSE: AEP) and DTE Energy (NYSE: DTE) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 1.8% and 1.5%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLU), which is down 0.8% on the day, and up 13.59% year-to-date. American Electric Power Company, meanwhile, is up 15.62% year-to-date, and DTE Energy is up 16.58% year-to-date. Combined, AEP and DTE make up approximately 7.7% of the underlying holdings of XLU.
