Procter & Gamble Speaks at the Chief Supply Chain Officer Forum

June 20, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
Last week the North American 3PL Summit and Chief Supply Chain Officer Forum in Chicago took place. Procter & Gamble’s Julio Nemeth, SVP of Product Supply, spoke about P&G’s supply chain initiatives.  He had some interesting things to say: They are now using demand sensing data in fairly sophisticated ways, such as the inclusion of customer web search data.  However their forecast accuracy at the SKU is still only plus or minus 20 percent. Clearly, this is one reason they need a responsive supply chain. P&G has rather forgone talking about supply chain systems and instead talks about their investments in analytics. [...]

Are Generic Drugs Hurting Rite Aid?

June 20, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
Filed under: Investing Rite Aid reported this week that its earnings per share totaled $0.04 last quarter, but the news did little to boost share prices, which have been sliding since the company lowered its full-year earnings outlook on June 5th. Rite Aid’s dampened expectations are due to lower-than-expected profit on the sale of generic medicine. That news is concerning given that generic drugs offer higher profit margin than their branded counterparts, and more drugs are losing patent protection this year than last year. Since Rite Aid blamed its profit troubles on its new [...]

Amazon shares rose 3% on the day of the announcement, implying a sense of optimism that the phone will provide a boost. This Dividend Stock Can Help You Beat Inflation in Retirement

June 19, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
Filed under: Investing Utility companies, such as electric, water, and gas providers, have long been a staple of income-focused investors. This is because of the nature of the companies in this industry. Utility companies simply provide a staple of modern living to many, if not all, of the households and businesses in their service area, and these households and businesses mail a monthly check to the utility company. This provides a reliable source of cash flow for utilities. The utility company, meanwhile, generally does not have to spend particularly large amounts of money to [...]

Why Williams Companies' Purchase of Access Midstream Makes Sense

June 19, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
Filed under: Investing You probably heard that Williams  will acquire all of the general partner of Access Midstream , as well as a 50% stake in Access itself. If you look at Access’ financials, it’s pretty easy to see why Williams — or just about any large midstream company — would want a stake in this natural-gas gathering and processing specialist. There is a reason that Williams specifically went after Access, though: the combination of Access’ assets and master limited partnership Williams Partners‘ investments in the Marcellus and Utica formations give it a huge competitive advantage [...]

Over the years Verizon picked up strategic data-networking assets with MCI in 2006 for $8.5 billion and data-center operator Terremark in 2011 for $1.4 billion. Verizon’s IP network’s route miles could circle the globe 20 times. Verizon also runs 15 network access points (NAPs), giant disaster-proof buildings where dozen of Internet companies plug in together. One of those data centers is a building out in Culpeper, Va.
