3 Small-Cap Biotech Stocks to Buy if the Market Crashes

October 15, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
Filed under: Investing The Russell 2000  small-cap stock index is the most widely used proxy for small-cap stocks and the exchange traded fund that tracks that index has tumbled 11.6% this year. That’s a frightening drop, but it’s been proven time and time again that investing for the long haul outperforms jumping in and out of stocks in the short term, and that may mean that the Russell 2000’s decline is creating a long haul opportunity in small-cap biotechnology stocks. If the index continues to fall, risk-tolerant investors may find that buying small-cap biotechnology companies [...]

Is It Time to Buy Halliburton Company Stock?

October 15, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
Filed under: Investing Back in July, analysts were showing their love for Halliburton Company . UBS Securities raised its price target from $80.00 to $87.00 based on conservative assumptions with upside potential on top of that. Almost exactly when UBS was increasing its target, Halliburton began its fall, its share price falling from $71.00 then to near $54 now.  First consider the contract risk For comparison, Schlumberger Limited seems to take a longer-term contract stance than Halliburton, which reduces the risk and uncertainty. For example, in its last earnings report the company mentioned a five-year [...]

Pharmaceutical companies, for example, are substantially reliant on their drug development pipeline to fuel future growth. While Wall Street and investors certainly enjoy when product sales rise and profits roll in, branded drugs only come with a finite period of patent protection, [...]

JPMorgan Chase & Co. Earnings: Solid, With a Hint of Litigation Risk

October 14, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
Filed under: Investing JPMorgan Chase kicked off bank earnings season Tuesday with a narrow miss. The bank reported diluted earnings per share of $1.36, missing the consensus expectation of $1.38. Legal chargesJPMorgan’s miss was largely the result of one line item: legal expenses. The bank reported unexpectedly high companywide legal charges of $1.1 billion. Delta's Profit Will Likely Be Clipped By Special Charges Despite Solid Operating Performance

October 13, 2014 by Harry Joiner - Add Comment
In our view, though these special charges will clip Delta?s third quarter profit, the carrier?s long term profit outlook is bright driven by its ongoing solid operating performance. In the third quarter, excluding the impact from these special charges, Delta?s operating margin is expected to rise to 15-16% on gains from capacity expansion and cost cutbacks, up from 13% in the same period last year. We figure because of variability in special charges, the exclusion of these charges is helpful to analyze the company?s core recurring operating performance. Source: Markets
